Domain Transfer Policy
Transfer-In: Moving Your Domain to Us
Bringing your domain to our platform is quick and straightforward. Here's how it works:
Prepare Your Domain at the Current Registrar
- Unlock the domain in your current registrar’s control panel.
- Obtain the authorization code (Auth Code / EPP Code) from the domain settings.
Start the Transfer With Us
- Log in to your account on our website.
- Navigate to the Domains → New Order section.
- Enter the domain name and select Change of domain registrar.
- Click Next.
- Enter your Auth Code and fill in your domain owner contact details to ensure accurate WHOIS records.
- Click Next.
Approve the Transfer via Email
- We’ll send a confirmation email to the domain’s registered owner.
- Click the link in the email to approve the transfer request.
Transfer Completion
- Once approved, the transfer will start automatically.
- If the current registrar doesn’t object, the transfer usually completes within 5–7 days.
- Note: If the current registrar denies the transfer for any reason, we’ll notify you with the details and next steps.
Transfer-Out: Moving Your Domain to Another Registrar
Follow these steps to prepare and authorize a domain transfer away from our service.
Obtain the Authorization (Auth/EPP) Code
- Navigate to Domains → Domain List, select the domain, and click Information. Copy the authorization code displayed on that page (you'll need it at the new registrar).
Unlock the Domain & Remove WHOIS Privacy
- Click Edit for the domain. On the page that opens:
- Clear the clientTransferProhibited checkbox if selected (this unlocks the domain).
- Clear the WHOIS Privacy checkbox if selected.
- Click the Order a change to the domain button to save and apply changes.
Start the Transfer at the New Registrar
- At the new registrar, initiate their domain transfer-in process and provide:
- The domain name.
- The Auth/EPP code copied from the Information page.
Approve the Transfer via Email
- An authorization email will be sent to the domain’s registered contact. Below is an example of the message you may receive:
- MainReg Inc. received notification on YYYY-MM-DD that you have requested a transfer to another domain name registrar. If you want to proceed with this transfer, you do not need to respond to this message. If you wish to cancel the transfer, please reject the transfer before YYYY-MM-DD.
- Important: Some registrars treat inaction as approval (no reply required), while others require an explicit approval link or button. If the email includes an approval/reject link, follow its instructions. If you do not see the email, check the WHOIS contact address and your spam folder.
Finalization
- Once the transfer is approved, the current registrar may have a short window to object. If they do not object, the transfer will complete according to the registrars' timelines (often a few days).
Quick Checklist
- Copied the Auth/EPP code from Domains → Domain List → Information.
- Cleared clientTransferProhibited (domain unlocked).
- Disabled WHOIS Privacy.
- Clicked Order a change to the domain to save changes.
- Initiated transfer at the new registrar and monitored for the authorization email.
- If anything blocks the transfer (e.g., a 60-day transfer restriction after registration or a recent ownership change), you will be notified with next steps.
