Expired Registration Recovery Policy (ERRP)

This Expired Registration Recovery Policy (“ERRP”) describes how MainReg notifies registrants about upcoming domain expirations and the options available to renew or recover a domain name after expiration. This policy follows ICANN requirements and provides transparency regarding notices, fees, and recovery procedures.

Note: Domain life-cycle timing may vary by TLD and registry. Where registry rules differ, those rules will apply.

Redemption Fee

Redemption Fee (Restoration Fee): $150

This fee may apply if your domain enters the registry Redemption Grace Period (RGP). The standard renewal fee and any applicable charges may also apply depending on the TLD.

2. MainReg Expiration, Renewal, Auction, and Deletion Timeline

If a domain name is not renewed by the registrant before the expiration date, MainReg applies a parking and auction-based process. The domain may be redirected to a parking page and may be listed for auction. Renewal remains possible at the standard renewal price up to the end of Day 40, unless the domain is sold via auction on Day 40.

Day (relative to expiration) Status Registrant Action Fee
Day 0 Expiration date Renewal possible Standard renewal fee
Day 0 – Day 32 Domain may be parked Renewal possible Standard renewal fee
Day 32 – Day 40 Domain listed in auction Renewal possible until Day 40* Standard renewal fee
Day 40 If winning auction bid exists → domain transferred to auction winner.
If no winning bid → domain deleted and enters Redemption Period.
If sold: renewal not possible.
If not sold: restoration possible.
If not sold: Redemption fee + renewal fee
Day 40 – Day 69 Redemption Grace Period Restoration possible $150 redemption fee + renewal fee
Day 70 – Day 75 Pending Delete Not possible to renew or restore N/A

*Important: If a domain has a winning auction bid on Day 40, the original registrant can no longer renew or restore the domain.

What Happens After Expiration?

After expiration, a domain typically passes through several stages before it may be deleted or released. The timeline below is an example commonly applicable to many gTLDs.

Some domains may be listed for auction or closeout via third-party services, which may limit recovery options.
